I've noticed, now that my son is three weeks old, his feeding habits have started to change. He's hungry more often, and will eat more in one feeding. For the most part I've been sticking to the basic guidelines he had in his first week. Feeding at the breast for at least 20 minutes on each side, or eating 3-4 oz in a bottle feeding. Where it used to be a challenge to get him to feed the entire forty minutes, or to finish that last oz in the bottle, now he will go an hour or more at the breast, and will still seem hungry after gulping down the entire 4 oz from a bottle. Breastfeeding: It’s all in the Diaper

Probably my biggest challenge so far, and a significant problem for many moms, are related in some way to breastfeeding. Is my baby getting enough to eat? How long should he or she feed? How often should I feed him? Should I wake him up if he hasn't eaten in a while or let him sleep? What do I do if I can't get him to latch on? Should it hurt or be sore? Formula verses Breastfeeding

While most hospitals and doctors seem to promote breastfeeding over formula feeding, most mothers go with formula over breast milk. Probably more for convenience than anything else. It seems to be a big issue for some moms and even some doctors who insist on knowing which one you will do before your third trimester. I personally have decided to breastfeed. I'm going to be a stay at home mom for as long as I can, so the convenience verses the benefits really works out. But for some women, breastfeeding can be more of a challenge.
